Wilson's popularity travelled to the United States during 2014 when she was a guest in Showtimes The Affair. She performed the role of Alison Lockhart, a young woman who has a difficult relationship with her past, and is drawn to Noah Solloway. Wilson was awarded a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama, alongside Mauratierney and Joshua Jackson. Wilson told British Vogue, "I loved getting to portray an actor who could be both sides of the story." Noah considers that Alison is an attractive, confident and reckless version of herself. However, she perceives her self in a different manner, as someone who is unassuming and pretentious from the inside. Wilson continued: "I do believe America is moralistic and judgemental and therefore what transpires on the show is quite shocking." In 2018 Wilson left the show, to the shock of many fans but she was not clear on other information. In an interview in August of 2018 on CBS This Morning, Wilson stated that she did wish to quit the show, but wasn't allowed to explain why. The Little Stranger More recently Wilson has been pursuing film work. She starred with the film of horror I Am the Pretty Thing Who Lives in The House in 2016, and later in the sci-fi rom-com How to Talk to Girls on Parties in which she played the mysterious PT Stella. In order to add more horror films to her credits list her upcoming film will feature the British film version of The Little Stranger. This supernatural thriller is based off a novel written by Sarah Waters. Wilson is the executive producer of the film.
